The idea to develop and manufacture a scale for wheelchair users came to me many years ago when I realized that there was no practical scale on the market for home-usage. I became a paraplegic and wheelchair user in 1984 after a motorcycle accident. Then my life changed drastically, and I did my best to live a normal life with studies, work, and many leisure activities. In 1990 I started playing wheelchair basketball, and in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000), I represented Sweden in the Paralympics. Today I work as a researcher at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.
In the summer of 2021, I decided to make a difference and manufacture a scale for us in a wheelchair. The idea was to create a standard bathroom scale found in all homes, which could also be used when sitting in a wheelchair. All the wheelchair scales I have seen so far were made for healthcare facilities and were large, heavy, and expensive. I wanted to make a bathroom scale that was small, light, stylish, and did not cost too much. I am delighted and proud of the result and warmly recommend it to anyone in a wheelchair who wants a practical and stylish scale for the home.
I am convinced that people in wheelchairs can live a healthier life if they weigh themselves more regularly and thus better control their weight. In this way, wheelchair users can take quick steps to reverse the trend if they gain a few kilos.
